The contribution of an environmental education programme to the shaping of attitudes and values at preschool age

Abstract

This research focuses on the planning, the application and the evaluation of an Environmental Education programme for preschool children, that aims at the formation of environmentally friendly attitudes and values. An assessment of the environmental sensitivity of preschool children, as it relates to an issue of the local environment, as well as, the degree of the children’s reform after taking part in the programme, constitute the secondary aims of the research. Another concern of the research programme is the extent to which technocentric, ecosystemic and biotic life matters affect the development of their environmental thought. The originality of the research lies in the evaluation of an EE programme designed to ellicit environmentally friendly attitudes and cultivate values at a preschool age.
