Parent schools: evaluation of the effectiveness of a brief psychoeducational cognitive behavioral parent training program

Abstract

Parent training programs (parent schools) are short interventions that aim to support parents and training them so that they can practise effectively their parental role. Unfortunately the existing data related to the effectiveness of these programs is not enough in Greece. The purpose of the present study was a) the research of the characteristics of the parents that participate in universal parent training programs, b) the evaluation of the effectiveness of a specific, structured parent training program of the Cognitive Behavioral Approach and c) the research of the parents' views for the particular program they have participated in.The final sample consisted of 183 parents. 120 of them belong to the control group and although they were informed about this program, they chose not to participate in it (non-participants).
