Introduction: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the lifestyle and health of all people. Many people changed their lifestyle. Nursing staff are frontline workers in the COVID-19 pandemic and have been greatly affected, mainly because of their constant contact with COVID-19 patients and because of the fear of getting themselves and their families sick.Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to investigate the association between obesity, diet, lifestyle and sleep disorders in nursing staff at baseline and two years after the onset of the pandemic.Methodology: The present study is a multicenter cross-sectional correlational study. The sample of the study was the nursing staff working in the Greek public hospitals, regardless of education level and years of service. The Short Form 36 Health Survey Questionnaire (SF-36) was used to assess quality of life, the Mediterranean diet score to assess adherence to the Mediterranean diet, and the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality. Participants at the beginning of the pandemic versus two years after its onset did significantly more moderate-intensity physical exercise (50.4±60.7 vs. 43.8±65.8, p<0.05), had significantly better physical functioning (82.5±25.5 vs. 80.1±26.1, p<0.05) and physical role (92.3±11.4 vs. 89.9±12.3, p<0.05), had significantly less physical pain (93.4±13.2 vs. 84.1±16.6, p<0.05), significantly better general health (59.4±21.9 vs. 55.1±23.9, p<0.05), significantly better emotional role (77.9±26.6 vs. 71.7±30.4, p<0.05) and mental-emotional health (67.2±19.2 vs. 65.2±22.1, p<0.05), significantly higher score on the summary physical health scale (81.9±12.4 vs. 77.3±15.4, p<0.05), significantly higher total score on the Mediterranean Diet Score (26.6±9.7 vs. 25.4±6.3, p<0.05), consumed significantly more meals per day (2.8±1.1 vs. 1.4±0.5, p<0.05), needed significantly more time to fall asleep each night (23.4±24.2 vs. 22.2±22.8, p<0.05), slept significantly more hours per night (6.2±1.6 vs. 5.9±1.4, p<0.05), had significantly better subjective sleep quality (1.98±0.2 vs. 1.68±0.3, p<0.05), significantly less delayed sleep onset (1.89±1.5 vs. 1.64±1.7, p<0.05), significantly fewer sleep disturbances (0.91±0.8 vs. 0.71±0.8, p<0.05), significantly less daytime dysfunction (1.02±0.8 vs. 0.96±0.9, p<0.05), significantly higher score on the PSQI questionnaire (8.6±3.1 vs. 8.1±3.7, p<0.05) and were significantly more afraid of COVID-19 (19.2±6.8 vs. 15.6±6.6, p<0.05).
