Backward design of curriculum: an example from science education courses for preschool children and elementary students: an inclusive education approach
Abstract
The main purpose of this doctoral thesis was the Backward Design of Curriculum, specifically for Sciences Courses for children in pre- and elementary school where educational inclusion is applied. The aim was to examine the extent to which students with learning disabilities and students of formal development can effectively be co-educated by a common curriculum. In addition, it is important to consider if Backward Design as an educational approach is capable of overcome the teaching and learning barriers encountered in inclusive school. The specific objectives of the research were: a) to observe the interpersonal relationships that developed between students at the past, during and after the implementation of an educational program based on Backward Design and b) to assess the rate to which each student has evolved individually based on his abilities.
