STUDY OF RARE B QUARY DECAYS AT LEP/ALEPH

Abstract

A STUDY OF RARE B-MESON DECAYS OF THE TYPE B --> SΓ HAS BEEN PERFORMED IN THE S.M. OF ELECTROWEAK INTERACTIONS, FLAVOR-CHANGING NEUTRAL CURRENTS (FCFC) ARE FORBIDDEN AT THE TREE LEVEL, BUT MAY OCCUR AT THE ONE-LOOP LEVEL THROUGH SO-CALLED PENGUIN DIAGRAMS. USING THE DATA COLLECTED FROM ALEPH/LEP DETECTOR AT CERN A SEARCH FOR THE DECAYS B+- --> K*=-Γ, B0 --> K*0Γ, BS --> 0Γ HAS BEEN MADE. THE FOLLOWING UPPER LIMITS WERE DERIVED: BR(B+- --> K*+-Γ) < 9,5 Χ 10-4, 90% C.L. BR(B0 --> K*0Γ) < 1,4 X 10-4, 90% C.L. IN AGREEMENT WITH THE RESULTS OF CLEO AND ARGUS AND BR(BS --> 0Γ) < 4,1 X 10-4, 90% C.L. THE UPPER LIMIT FORTHE BS --> 0Γ WAS GIVEN FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE REACTION BS --> D-S Π+ WAS ALSO STUDIED AND ONE EVENT WAS FOUND. THIS RESULT COMBINED WITH THE RESULTS FROM OTHER BS HADRONIC DECAYS, LEADED TO THE FOLLOWING FIRST MEASUREMENT OF BS MASS: MBS = [S, 3686 +- 0,0056 (STAT) +- 0,0015 (SYS)] GEV/C2.
