PHARMACOCHEMICAL STUDY ON THE EFFECT OF SOME BIOLOGICALLY ACTIVE COMPOUNDS ON OXIDATIVE-REDUCTIVE DRUG METABOLIC PROCESSES AND ON LIPID PEROXIDATION
Abstract
IN THIS THESIS, THE EFFECT OF PREGNENOLONE 16A-CARBONITRILE, ETHANOL, TOCOPHEROL-AC AND OXATOMIDE ON OXIDATIVE-REDUCTIVE DRUG METABOLIC PROCESSES E.G. AROMATIC HYDROXYLATION, N-DEMETHYLATION, P-NITROBENZOATE REDUCTION IN VIVO AND IN VITRO HAS BEEN STUDIED. THE CONCENTRATIONS OF THE HEPATIC MICROSOMAL P-450 AND POSTMITOCHONDRIAL FRACTION PROTEIN, UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF THE ABOVE AGENTS, HAVE BEEN DETERMINED. THE ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF THESE AGENTS AND A POTENTIAL INTERELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THEIR ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES AND THEIR INFLUENCE ON DRUG METABOLISM HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED. THE EFFECT OF A SERIES OF COMPOUNDS WITH CERTAIN STRUCTURAL FEATURES AND VARIOUS BIOLOGICAL ACTIONS RELATED TO FREE RADICALS HAS BEEN STUDIED ON THE PEROXIDATION OF MICROSOMAL MEMBRANE LIPIDS. A CORRELATION OF THE ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF THE COMPOUNDS TESTED WITH THEIR LIPOPHILICITYHAS BEEN ATTEMPTED. THE ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF TWO NOVEL ANDROSTAN-DERIVATIVES HAS ALSO BEEN STUDIED .
