ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE IN SECONDARY EDUCATION. (A STATISTICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE MACEDONIAN PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THEIR SENIOR YEAR)

Abstract

THE PROBLEM WAS TO ASSESS THE ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE MACEDONIAN PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THEIR SENIOR YEAR. THE ECONOMIC LITERARY STATUS OF THE STUDENTS' KNOWLEDGE WAS MEASURED BY USING THE "TEST OF ECONOMIC LITERARY" (TEL). EACH TEST ITEM WAS CATEGORIZED BY A COGNITIVE LEVEL AND A CONTENT CATEGORY. DEMOGRAPHIC AND RELATED DATA WERE ALSO COLLECTED. THE RESEARCH WAS MADE IN 1990AND THE DATA FROM THE TEST AND THE QUESTIONNAIRES WERE ANALYZED BY THE STATISTICAL PACKAGE SP.SS. FREQUENTLY DISTRIBUTIONS WERE USED TO SUMMARIZE THE RESPONSES TO ALL ITEMS, ANOVA'S AND THE SCHEFFE'S POST HOC MULTIPLE COMPARISON WEREUSED TO TEST HYPOTHESES WERE APPLICABLE. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT: 1) THE AVERAGE LEVEL IN ECONOMIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENTS WAS LOW. 2) THE TEACHING OF "ECONOMICS" HELPS IN THE UNDERSTANDING OF ECONOMIC CONCEPTS. 3) STUDENTS CORRECTLY ANSWERED THE HIGHEST PERCENTAGE OF QUESTIONS IN THE AREAS OF "ECONOMIC SYSTEMS" (50,57%) AND "MICROECONOMICS" (43,32%) AND THE LOW ...
