Study of the muon and the muon and lepton numper violation in modern gauge theories
Abstract
LEPTON AND FLAVOUR NUMBER VIOLATING PROCESSES ARE EXAMINED IN THE CONTEXT OF MODERN GAUGE THEORIES. MORE PRECISELY THE PROCESSES (TYPE) ARE INVESTIGATED ANDVARIOUS MECHANISMS HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED WHICH INVOLVE: A) SEVERAL EXTENSIONS OF THE STANDARD GLASHOW- WEINBERG-SALAM MODEL, WITH THE INTRODUCTION EITHER OF THE RIGHT- HANDED NEUTRINO OR OF NEW EXOTIC SCALARS (HIGGS MULTIPLETS), B) SIMILAR EXTENSIONS OF THE GRAND UNIFIED THEORIES SU(5), SO(10) ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. IN PARTICULAR, THE NEUTRINO MASSES AND MIXING WHICH ARE INVOLVED ARE OBTAINED IN A SIMPLE MECHANISM BASE IN SO(10) GRAND UNIFIED THEORY, AND THE BRANCHINGRATIOS ARE CALCULATED AND COMPARED WITH THE EXISTING EXPERIMENTAL LIMITS.
