Pharmacognostic study of the genus Helichrysum Mill. (Asteraceae) in Greece: study of the narrow endemic species H. amorginum and in vitro bioactivity assessment
Abstract
The present Doctoral thesis, which is developed in 5 chapters, focuses for the first time on the phytochemical study of 11 taxa (10 species, 2 subspecies) of the genus Helichrysum of Greek origin and in particular the species H. amorginum. Chapter 1 introduces the family Asteraceae and the genus Helichrysum, referring to botanical, phytochemical, and ethnopharmacological information of the species of the genus. This information is then focused on the 11 Greek native taxa (six endemic or subendemic) that are found as wild-growing in Greece. In Chapter 2, the qualitative analysis of methanolic extracts of 11 Greek taxa of Helichrysum Mill. sourced from the wild is described using the UPLC-HRMS technique. The chemical categories of the metabolites designated by the specific methodology are described with comments for each wild taxon. In Chapter 3, a case study is carried out regarding one of the 10 species of Greek origin, namely H. amorginum. Qualitative analysis of essential oils of nin ...
