The contribution of thermal comfort to people’s health and to the increase of their efficiency is a subject of study for many researchers abroad. In the greek context, however, thermal comfort is not among the main variables taken into consideration during the architectural design stage. This thesis aims to investigate the design parameters that affect thermal comfort in a typical school classroom in Greece. The term "thermal comfort" refers to the state in which a person does not wish to change the prevailing thermal conditions in the room. The field survey includes the building walkthrough, the monitoring of the environmental conditions and the questionnaire survey to the students. The research continues in the investigation of the design parameters that determine the building envelope and that affect thermal comfort using a simulation software and the appropriate research tools for the evaluation of thermal comfort. Based on the above individual researches, the existing bibliography on the subjects related to the thermal comfort in the classroom is organized, the internal environmental conditions that prevail in the classrooms are presented and the problems faced by the greek classrooms are identified. The users' perception of their thermal comfort is also presented. Finally, the design parameters that influence the comfort conditions in the classroom are analyzed. The upper aim of this thesis is to determine the design parameters that improve the thermal comfort in a typical classroom in Greece.
