The childhood and the diversity in elementary school textbooks of the greek language from 1982 to 2014: a sociological and sociohistorical approach

Abstract

The purpose of this dissertation is to investigate whether childhood can be observed as being general and universal and how childhood in itself has been influenced and altered by social, economic and political factors during different periods of history. Furthermore, it examines whether the relationship between childhood and diversity is stable, or it changes under the influence of the aforementioned factors. The Mayring qualitative and quantitative content analysis methodological example is used.The Greek Language Textbooks Of Elementary school of the 1980s and 2006 do not simply depict childhood; they approach it variably, according to the social perceptions and political ideologies that prevailed in these two periods. The same applies to the notion of diversity. The differences between these textbooks are great, as is the time period that elapsed to replace the first ones with the latter.
