Effect of trace elements of alternative fuels and raw materials on the structure and properties of Portland cement clinker
Abstract
This thesis presents the results of an in-depth investigation in regard to the suitability and effect of the chemical composition of wastes used as alternative fuels-AF on the structure and properties of Portlnad cement clinker based on a scenario of 100% thermal substitution of conventional fuels by AF. In this context clinkers were produced by firing mixtures of industrial raw mix with fuel ash in a laboratory furnace. Ash of a fuel mix consisting of coal-and pet-coke was introduced in the raw mix that served as the zero basis, while the other three mixtures were prepared with the addition of ashes originating from refuse derived fuel-RDF and agricultural biomass (rice husks and cotton stalks). The clinkering behavior of the mixtures was assessed by differential thermal analysis and scanning calorimetry. The microstructure of the resulting clinkers was investigated by x-ray diffraction and Rietveld method, as well as scanning electron and optical microscopy. The physical and mechanic ...
