Evaluation of hemodynamic response of new inotropic agents on acute heart failure
Abstract
Aim: To compare the hemodynamic efficiency, the neurohumoral response and the clinical outcome between levosimendan and milrinone in decompensated chronic heart failure using a prolonged infusion pattern without a loading dose. Method: 50 patients admitted to emergencies for acute or decompensated heart failure, participated in the study. They divided in two equivalent groups receiving intravenously either levosimendan or milrinone up to 72 hours without a loading dose. Primary endpoint was defined the hemodynamic response. Secondary endpoint was the neurohumoral and arrhythmiogenic response of the two agents according to BNP and QRS- complex duration (filtered) respectively, at 48 and 72 hours. Complications and clinical outcome within 180 days were registrated. Results: Both agents demonstrated good hemodynamic response, BNP decrease and QRS- complex duration stability.
