DATA ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION OF THE ASYMMETRY AT THE NEUTRAL KAON DECAYS TO TWOCHARGED PIONS USING KINEMATICAL FITS

Abstract

CP VIOLATION IN K0 DECAY HAS BEEN STUDIED, USING DATA FROM THE EXPERIMENT PS195(CPLEAR) OF CERN. THE NEUTRAL KAONS K0 AND K0 ARE PRODUCED IN ANNIHILATIONS PP->K-Π-K0 AND PP->K-Π-Κ0 AT REST. THE BASIC INFORMATION FOR THE LEAR (LOW ENERGYANTIPROTON RING) ACCELARATOR OF CERN AND THE EXPERIMENTAL SET-UP OF THE EXPERIMENT PS195 IS DESCRIBED. THE CONSTRUCTION, THE READ-OUT ELECTRONICS AND THE DATA ACQUISITION SYSTEM OF THE ELECTROMAGNETIC CALORIMETER ARE ALSO DESCRIBED IN DETAILS. FINALLY THE DATA TAKING PROCEDURE AND THE SELECTION AND ANALYSIS OF THEEXPERIMENTAL DATA USING KINEMATICAL FITS ARE DESCRIBED IN DETAILS . THE ASYMMETRY A<-(T) IS EVALUATED. OBSERVATION OF SUCH AN ASYMMETRY IS DIRECT PROOF OF CPVIOLATION. A FIT TO THE ASYMMETRY ENABLED THE DETERMINATION OF THE CP VIOLATION PARAMETER N<- TO BE MADE, YIELDING THE RESULT (TYPE).
