SYNTHESIS AND STUDY OF MIXED LIGANDS COPPER(I) COMPLEXES WITH TOLYLPHOSPHINE AND HETEROCYCLIC THIONES ARE DESCRIBED IN THIS PH. D THESIS. REACTION OF [(CUX)M (PR3)N] IN ACETONITRILE WITH HETEROCYCLIC THIONEIN THE REGIO 1:1 YIELD COMPLEXES OF THE GENERAL FORMULA [(CUX)(PR3)(L)]N (PR3=TRI-P,M,O-TOLYLPHOSPHIN; L=HETEROCYCLIC THIONE, X=CL,BR,I). THE CHARACTERIZATION OF COMPLEXES HAVE BEEN BASED ON THEIR ELEMENTAL ANALYSIS, MELTING POINTS AND THEIR SPECTROSCOPIC DATA. SPECIAL EMPHASIS HAS BEEN GIVEN TO X-RAY DIFRACTION FROM SOME COMPLEXES'S CRYSTALS. TRI-O- TOLYLPHOSPHINE'S COMPLEXES HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE TRIGONAL PLANAL CONTRARYTO THAT OF TRI-M ORETRI-P-TOLYLPHOSPHINE'S COMPLEXES WHICH HAVE BEEN FOUND TO BE DINUCLEAR. PHOTOREACTIVITY OF THE COMPLEXES HAS BEEN ALSO STUDIED AND THE QUANTUM YIELDS OF THE PHOTOLYSIS REACTIONS HAS BEEN ESTIMATED. ULTRA-VIOLET RADIATION CAUSES THE RELEASE OF PHOSPHATE AND THE FORMATION OF [CULX]N TYPE COMPLEX.
