Abstract

This study focuses on two issues that concern kindergarten teachers’ in-service education in music pedagogy. The first issue concerns the investigation of kindergarten teachers’ knowledge and competencies related to the systematic teaching of music in early childhood education. The second issue concerns the effectiveness of a specific in-service music educational programme which aimed at helping kindergarten teachers overcome their lacking knowledge and competence in music education. This study has both a theoretical and an empirical section. In the theoretical section, issues concerning both the content and process of in-service education in music pedagogy during early childhood education are discussed. The empirical section first studies the extent of kindergarten teachers’ lacking knowledge and competence in music early childhood education.
