The development and geographical organization of the hellenic defense industry network as part of the hellenic force logistic support system and the greek defense planning
Abstract
This PhD thesis aims at examining the processes of development and geographical organization of the Greek Defense Industry, as part of the whole system of the Greek Armed Forces and defense planning. In particular, it examines the locational patterns and processes of the Greek defense industry in correlation with the main geopolitical, geoeconomic and geostrategic factors that play a determinant role to the formation of those patterns and processes. The thesis is a theoretically informed empirical research: It adopts a new theoretical and methodological framework based upon an effort to enrich the “structural approach” to industrial geography with elements of geoeconomic and geostrategic considerations of contemporary Greece. This framework is then put at work in a concrete case study - i.e. an empirical analysis of the development and geographical organization of the Greek defense industry.
