CONDUCTIVE SOLIDS WITH MULTI-SULFUR Π-DONORS AND Π-ACCEPTORS
Abstract
IN THIS STUDY IT IS DESCRIBED THE SYNTHESIS OF SOME NEW Π-DONORS AND Π-ACCEPTORS AND THE SYNTHESIS OF THEIR ION RADICAL SALTS OF THE GENERAL FORMULA: (TYPE). OPTICAL AND ELECTRICAL STUDIES SHOWED THAT MOST OF THE SALTS BEHAVE LIKE TWO DIMENSIONAL (2D) INTRINSIC OR EXTRINCIC SEMICONDUCTORS, WITH AN UNUSUALLY HIGH METAL TO SEMICONDUCTOR TRANSITION TEMPERATURE. THE DC- CONDUCTIVITY OF THESE SALTS WAS FOUND TO BE OF THE ORDER OF 1-10 Ω-1.CM-1 AND THE ACTIVATION ENERGY OF THE ORDER OF 10-102 MEV. THE INCREASED DIMENSIONALITY OF THESE COMPOUNDS IS DUE TO THE SHORT S--S AND S- -N CONTACTS THAT WERE FOUND FROM THE CRYSTAL STRUCTURES. VIBRATIONAL INFORMATION FROM THE MIR REGION CONFIRMED THE PARTIAL CHARGE TRANSFER. THE UV-VIS-NIR, FIR, RAMAN STUDIES OF THE SALTS OF THE FORMULA (BPDT-TTF)1IX2 (WHERE X=I,BR) SHOWED THAT THE DOMINANT UNITS IN THE CRYSTALS ARE THE IX-2ONES IN THE CASE OF THE IONDINE CONTAINING COMPOUND, LINEAR I-5 UNITS COEXIST .
