Guidelines for psychological support in the training of refugees in the Hellenic Republic

Abstract

Refugee education has developed into an important and pressing issue for people around the world (Dryden-Peterson, 2016). Greece has grown into a safe intermediate location where refugees can ask for asylum. As a result, certain areas of the country have been turned into transitional temporary housing for refugees, before they travel to final destinations in other countries of Europe (Arvanitis et al., 2019). After the European refugee crisis that took place in 2015, more than 850,000 refugees arrived in Greece within two years, from countries including Syria (56%), Afghanistan (24%), and Iraq (10%) (CEAR, 2017). Given that refugees started to be ever more present in the public arena, the education of refugees became a national issue in Greece (Arvanitis, 2021).
