ΜPredictive factors of remission after discontinuation of antivirals in patients with HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B
Abstract
Background: Patient outcomes after discontinuation of oral antivirals in HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B (CHB) vary widely among studies, while reliable predictors of relapse and/or retreatment as well as HBsAg loss have not been identified. This prospective study assessed rates and predictors of the abovementioned outcomes and investigated the kinetics of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), interferon inducible protein-10 (IP10) and hepatitis B core related antigen (HBcrAg) serum levels in non-cirrhotic HBsAg positive patients with HBeAg-negative CHB who discontinued effective ≥4- year entecavir (ETV) or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) therapy. Methods: Fifty-seven patients discontinued therapy after median virological remission of 5.3 years and remained under close follow-up. Patients were retreated with ETV or TDF if they fulfilled predetermined criteria and were followed monthly for 3 months, every 2 or 3 months until month 12 and every 3 or 6 months thereafter. HBsAg, IP10 ...
