My research on "THE BILINGUAL POSTWAR THEATRE OF DIASPORA: CASE STUDY OF THE GREEK PLAYWRIGHTS WHO LIVE IN AUSTRALIA, FIRST AND SECOND GENERATION” The aim was, as part of a consultation of the immigrant culture, to explore the 'identity' of the migrant and migrant culture, and conflicts of diversity as they appear in the plays of Greek playwrights, first and second generation migrants. The objectives are related to the study of the concept of "immigration culture" and the "identity" of the im-migrant, as defined through the theatrical works by the first generation and second generation immigrant. More specifically, in the present study was to investigate: a) the identity of the migrant playwright as a self-contained source of intercultural expression and migration culture b) the particular ethno / socio / cultural "identity" of the immigrant of first and second generations, both through the dramatic text and the stage performance.c) the selection of representative dramatic texts (bi / multi-lingual which thematically refer to immigration experience in order to analyze and highlight the value dramaturgy as a source of migration history, migration culture and migrant identity.d) the usefulness of theater as pedagogical and educational tool in learning the ethnic language and culture of the migrant, i.e. Greek language and the study of the history of Greek postwar migration through the implementation of projects. In particular, my interest in research was focused around the following three objectives:The first objective that studies the concept of "immigration culture" and identifies the "identity" of the im-migrant first and second generation, is allocated in the following sites: 1) The investigation of 'identity' and personal migration history of the migrant playwright- first and second generation and knowledge of the conditions through which he/she creates, publicizes/presents/ performs his work in order to make comparisons with themes and characters displayed in his/her theatrical works. The identity of the migrant playwright can be recognized as a self-contained source of intercultural expression.2) The search of "diasporic" / "hybrid" identity of the im-migrant (which constantly is redefined and reconstructed since it is in dialectical relationship with the country of origin and the host country, in the same historical-social context) of both the first and second generation, as “it” appears in selected bilingual plays.3) The investigation of the play as a means of identification and acceptance of collective identity of the viewer-im-migrant, through the recruitment process and as presented in the print media.4) the development of an intercultural understanding in communication (the discourse) between individuals or groups from different cultural backgrounds. Intercultural perception in communication between generations, between the sexes, between classes, between religious differences, between groups from different cultural backgrounds, are data presented by the authors through their heroes/characters in the plays. The second objective relates to the drama and the search for the identity of the migrant (historical-social context) first and second generation, as presented in the selected representative plays, dramaturgically, both through the dramatic text and the stage performance. In the socio-semiotic approach of the play, analyzing dramatic texts, by using the dramatic model of Greimas, we can determine the form and content, in particular the social frame of reference. By applying this method, the semiotic content of the work is analyzed in respect of:• The causes and effects of conflicts,• Characters• And generally ideological reading of the text.Through the characters of the theatrical text, data is provided on the identity of the immigrant, conflicts on personal, collective and ideological level, as described by their deeds and sayings of others, and from the author's experiences, as recorded in the text. The third objective was the function of theatre as an educational and pedagogical tool and more specifically the question "INTERCULTURALISM AND MIGRANT THEATRE ". Organization and implementation of the following three innovative actions [PROJECTS], in order to explore the usefulness of the function of theater as educational and pedagogical tool and interculturalism in the following cases, namely:1) In the recognition, understanding and respect for the "hybrid" identity of immigrant children, which is formed by interaction of two cultural models, which are sometimes converge and sometimes oppose each other (in our case the 'Australian-Englishness' the Greek predominantly 'traditional' cultural background of parents).2) The development of an intercultural perception in communication (the discourse) between individuals or groups from different cultural backgrounds.3) The use of theatre as a tool for the study of the history of Greek postwar migration and learning the Greek language and culture. The multi-sited ethnographic method in the exploration of the bilingual postwar migrant theatre consists of two axes, that require, first, the "immersion" of the observer under investigation of the social grid, in order to understand the peculiarities of the research parameters and, secondly, maintaining the scientificity of research, to ensure strict monitoring and interpretation of the test phenomenon, guiding the aims and objectives of the study. The multi-sited ethnography defines the “objects” of the researchers’ study with different techniques. These practices are understood as follows:• Follow the People: Through a brief historiographical review of their migrant history from the early 20th century to the present , the ethnographer records and outlines the beginning of the capture the evolution of, at least, two-generations of immigrants and their interpretation of the historical route as they themselves narrate and describe, for example, Following the people from Greece one may observe how "open" the introspective process of identity is and how the redefinition processes of the Australian people develops.•Follow the Thing: Through their theatrical presence and production of performances and writing of plays from the early 20th century to the present , the ethnographer records and outlines the evolution of the communities and the ways collective consciousness is formed.• Follow the metaphor: The immigrant first generation is the transfer of Greek traditional culture to challenge a modern Anglo-Saxon culture, in which the second generation grows, and the theater that produces it means transmission of values, morals, language and culture of origin. This technique reveals the "flow" of information. • Follow the life or biography: Through live interviews with the playwrights, the multi-sited ethnographer records their life stories and is driven inductively to conclusions concerning their collective identity. Through the connection of the plays, the biographies and their interpretations, the ethnographer develops a multi-perspectivity of migration, migrant identity and migrant culture •Follow the Allegory: the ethnographer by following the allegory of the plot he can reveal the weaves of the multicultural tapestry.•Follow the conflict: This technique can become the tool that reveals the complexities of the migrant identity and culture.Having already reached to conclusions about the Greek migrant, his/her identity and its complexities, the inter-generational conflicts, the cultural diversities, the inter gender differences, I would mostly appreciate to extend my findings and knowledge acquired, to other migrant communities and proceed to a comparative research.
