Study of the 5-HT receptors in the auditory cortex of human
Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study is to determine the distribution of serotonergic receptors in the human primary auditory cortex. Material and methods: We use four human brains coming from the department of Forencic Medicine and Toxicology of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, of healthy individuals having died suddenly in road traffic accidents. Out of these four brains two were of male individuals (age 15 and 75 years old) and the remaining of female individuals (23 and 57 years old). From these brains the primary auditory cortex was isolated both from right and left temporal cortex. These areas studied both with immunohistochemical methods using monoclonal antibodies against 5-HT (PAP method) and Golgi method by impregnation of nerve cells by silver nitrate. The second method aimed for the study of cytoarchitecture of neuronal population of examined area. Results: Using the Golgi method, it was demonstrated that the primary auditory cortex belonged to the heterotypical ...
