LANGERHANS CELLS IN SKIN CANCER AND PRECANCEROUS SKIN LESIONS
Abstract
SKIN SPECIMENTS FROM 18 SCCS, 23 BCCS, 8 FROM PRECANCEROUS LESIONS, 7 FROM APPARENTLY NORMAL SKIN NEAR SCCS, 8 NEAR BCCS AND NEARBY PRECANCEROUS LESIONS WERE STUDIED AS REGARDS THE MEMBERS, DISTRIBUTION AND MORPHOLOGY OF EPIDERMAL LIS. THE AIM WAS TO SEE WHETHER PARTICULAR FEATURES HAVE ANY RELATIOSHIP WITH PARTICULAR TUMOR TYPES. THE FOLLOWING METHODS WERE EMPLOYED: 1. INDIRECT IMMUNOPEROXIDASE WITH MONOCLONAL ANTIBODIES NAI-34 (ANTI-CD1) AND MAS 54 (ANTI-DR). 2. ADENOSINOTRIPHOSPHATASE. A SIGNIFICANT DECREASE AND DEFORMATION WAS OBSERVED IN SCCS BOTH IN THE TUMOR AND RESPECTIVE EPIDERMIS. IN BCCS THEIR NUMBERS WERE ALSO LOW BUT SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED IN SCCS AND BCCS AS COMPARED TO THE ADJAUCENT NORMAL SKIN . PRECANCEROUS LESIONS ALSO SHOWED DECRESASED NUMBERS COMPARED TO THE NEARBY SKIN WHICH SERVED AS CONTROL.
