EFFECTS OF HUMAN ACTIVITIES ON SOIL ARTHROPODS IN A PINUS HALEPENSIS MILL ECOSYSTEM OF N.EUBOEA
Abstract
THE OBJECT OF THE THESIS IS THE ECOLOGICAL STUDY OF SOIL ARTHROPODS IN THREE STATIONS OF A PINUS HALEPENSIS FOREST IN N. EUBOEA (GREECE). THE PRESSURES AND EFFECTS CAUSED BY HUMAN ACTIVITIES ARE OF A DIFFERENT DEGREE IN THE THREE STATIONS. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY IS THE RESEARCH OF THE EFFECTS OF HUMAN ACTIVITIES ON SOIL FAUNA. THE MAIN ACTIVITIES RECORDED ARE: HUMAN TRAMPLING ON THE SOIL HORIZONS (IN ALL STATIONS) AS WELL AS THAT OF SHEEPS AND GOATS (LICHADA). GREATER PRESSURES ARE OBSERVED IN GREGALINANO WHERE HUMAN INTERFERENCES HAVE ADVANCED TO THE POINT OF DEFORESTATION OF THE SHRUB LAYER AND THEREFORE INDIRECT ALTERATIONOF THE PHYSICOCHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF AO. THIS STUDY CLEARLY SHOWS THAT HUMAN ACTIVITIES AND INTERVENTION ON THE ENVIRONMENT BRINGS ABOUT CHANGES IN THE DENSITY AND THE PRESENCE OF THE DIFFERENT GROUPS IN TIME. THE DENSITIES ARE CHANGING ACCORDINGLY TO THE INTENSITY OF DISTURBANCE OF THE ORIGINAL ENVIRONMENT WHILE THIS DOES NOT ALWAYS HAPPEN WITH THE CHANGES IN ...
