STUDY OF THE CALCULATION OF THE SUBCRITICAL FLOW-FIELD AROUND AXISYMMETRIC BODYWITHIN A WORKING SECTION OF A RECTANGULAR CROSS SECTION AND TO THE SIMULATION OF THE UNCONFINED FLOW PATTERN APPLYING THE CONTOURED WALL TECHNIQUE FOR THE MINIMIZATION OF THE WALL INTERFERENCE. THE CONFINED AND POTENTIAL FLOWFIELD ANALYSIS IS BASED ON THE LINEARISED COMPRESSIBLE FLOW THEORY AND THE METHOD OF IMAGES. THE SUPPORT SYSTEM IS OF A STING TYPE AND IT IS MODELED IN THE SAME WAY AS THE BODY AND THUS IT IS CONSIDERED AS AN EXTENSION OF THE BODY IN THE LIMITS OF THE TEST SECTION. THE VISCOUS EFFECT CAUSES AN INCREASE OF THE TUNNEL BLOCKAGE RATIO AND IT IS INTRODUCED INTO THE CALCULATION SCHEME BY MEANS OF AN ADDITIONAL PRESSURE GRADIENT. THE BOUNDARY LAYER DEVELOPMENT ON THE MODEL SURFACE AND THE TUNNEL WALLS IS CALCULATED APPLYING ROTTA'S INTEGRAL METHOD AND WHEN BOUNDARYLAYER SEPARATION IS DETECTED A WELL TESTED SEMI-EMPIRICAL METHOD IS USED.
