CATALYTIC MICRODETERMINATION �OF FE (III) AND CU (II)

Abstract

A CATALYTIC REACTION-RATE METHOD IS DESCRIBED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF TRACE AMOUNTS OF IRON (III) AND COPPER (II); THE METHOD IS BASED ON BOTH FE(III) AND CU(II)-CATALYSED OF CHROMOTROPIC ACID (DISODIUM SALT OF 4,5- DIHYDROXYNAPHTHALENE-2,7-DISULFONIC ACID) BY HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. THE REACTION WAS FOLLOWED SPECTROPHOTOMETRICALLY BY MEASURING THE RATE OF CHANGE IN ABSORBANCE AT 440 NM FOR FE(III) AND CU(II) RESPECTIVELY. THE PROPOSED METHOD IS SENSITIVE, RAPID, SIMPLE WITH GOOD ACCURACY AND REPRODUCIBILITY AND ALLOWS DETERMINATION OF AS LITTLEAS 10 NG/ML OF BOTH OF FE(III) AND CU(II). UNDER THE EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS,THE RATE OF THE UNCATALYSED REACTION FOR BOTH DETERMINATIONS WAS ALSO STUDIEDAND FOUND TO BE NEGLIGIBLE. THE TANGENT METHOD WAS USED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF FE(III) IN THE PRESENCE OF CU(II) IN ACIDIC MEDIUM (PH=1,20+0,02, HCL+KCLBUFFER), WHILE THE FIXED-TIME METHOD WAS USED FOR THE DETERMINATION OF CU(II)IN ALKALINE MEDIUM (PH=10.60+0,02, PHOSPHATE BUFFER); IN ...
