GREEK - ALBANIAN RELATIONS AND THE NORTHERN EPIRUS QUESTION, 1907 - 1914

Abstract

THIS DISSERTATION IS CONCERNED WITH THE STUDY OF THE MAIN FACTORS WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE GRECO - ALBANIAN RELATIONS, IN THE BALKANS, IN 1907 - 1914. SPECIFICALLY, IT DEALS WITH THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND POLITICALCONDITIONS UNDER WHICH GREEK AND ALBANIAN POPULATION IN EPIRUS LIVED TOGETHERAND ALSO WITH SUBJECTS REFERING TO GREEK AND ALBANIAN NATIONALISM. FOR THE WORKING OUT OF THIS DISSERTATION, THE WRITER COLLECTED, CLASSIFIED AND STUDIED A LOT OF DOCUMENTS FROM GREEK AND FOREIGN ARCHIVES. THEN, SHE EXAMINED CRITICALLY THE VARIOUS REPORTS CONTAINED IN THOSE DOCUMENTS AND IN RELATION TO THEMSHE PUT HER OWN QUESTIONS, IN ORDER TO DRAW THE MAIN CONCLUSIONS AFTER INQUIRING INTO MANY INTERESTING PROBLEMS. THE MAIN CONCLUSIONS ARE: 1ST THAT THE GREEK - ALBANIAN RIVALRY IN EPIRUS, UNTIL THE BALKAN WARS, ENDED WITH THE PREVALENCE OF HELLENISM BECAUSE MOST OF THE ORTHODOX ALBANIANS REMAINED UNDER THE GREEK INFLUENCE AND WITH THEIR FRIENDLY POSITION THEY ...
