Paraffin sections from 21 cases of Hodgkin's Disease (HD), 23 cases of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) and 34 cases of reactive lymphadenitides in children aged from 3-5 years old and followed in the Department of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, were examined for the expression of pan-ras, c-myc, PCNA and LMP-1, using the method of immunostaining. Additionally, the same samples were investigated for the presence of EBER 1/2 EBV-mRNAs, using the method of RNA in situ hybridization and for the detection of codon 12 point mutations of N-ras and K-ras, using the polymerase chain reaction technique (PCR), combined with RFLP analysis. Ras-p21 protein was hardly expressed in all cases that were examined. Codon 12 point mutation of N-ras was detected in only one case of NHL, while codon 12 point mutation of K-ras was not found at all.
