The oath and the prayer in the public life of the modern Greek state
Abstract
This doctoral thesis attempts to investigate two timeless aspects of Christianity, the oath and the prayer, which both in the past and in the modern Greek society are the main symbols of religious worship. The presence of the oath and the prayer in Greek public life is indisputable and through the exploratory work which was carried out, the researcher attempts to explain their historical importance on the one hand and their influence on the establishment of the Christian faith as the prevailing religion of Greece on the other hand. The result is that of these religious phenomena remain strongly present in the actions of the Greek public administration and justice, while emphasis is placed on their legal dimension and their connection with social and individual rights, which are enshrined in the Greek Constitution as well as by international legislative texts.
