The prose of Costas Montis
Abstract
Costas Montis’ prose work, despite the fact that it has been considered of utmost importance by all the critics of modern Greek literature, however, due to the prestigious reputation and admiration for his poetic work, it has remained on the sidelines of research until today. This thesis aims to investigate and highlight his prose work with a view to identifying the special characteristics that make up his narrative writing. In this context, his published prose work is studied, and in particular the novella Closed Doors, the novel Afentis Batistas and the other things, the short story collections, while the research sample of the thesis has been extended to some juvenilia or unpublished prose writings as well. More specifically, the theme, the form and the content of the texts, the literary influences and the evolution of his writing are investigated, as well as the distinct "intersections" of prose and poetry.
