The theology of the brothers Prochoros and Demetrios Kydones and the synodal condemnation (1368)
Abstract
This doctoral thesis presents the teaching of Prochoros and Demetrios Kydones. The study aims to highlight the important role of the Kydones brothers in the coming together of Orthodox and Scholastic Theology, with the ultimate goal of analyzing and interpreting their doctrinal teaching.It is worth noting that the historical-doctrinal investigation of the Theology of the Kydones brothers permeates the ecclesiastical-political developments and the interpretation of the Hesychast discord that shook the 14th century. Prochoros and Demetrios Kydones were studious and charismatic personalities, and thanks to their expertise in the Latin language they channeled their shared interest in scholastic Theology into the world of Byzantium.Prochoros was particularly concerned with profound doctrinal matters and especially with the distinction between divine essence and divine actions.
