The aim of the interdisciplinary work and its originality lies in the attempt to approach Ecology as a discourse about the wider "house" of man, through a dialectical relationship of Aesthetics, of the sensory perception of the world and beings, their material existence and of Orthodoxy as a specific way of life and use of the world. There is no denying that Orthodox Theology and Ecology are interconnected and have many principles in common. Theology talks about the Creator and constructor of our ‘environmental’ home, while Ecology talks about God’s world. Theology, then, deals with the cause and speaks of the uncreated first Mind and Cause of the Creation of the environment, while ecology deals with the created, the effect and speaks of the natural laws that govern the earth.Ιt has now become common awareness that the disturbed relationship of man with the environment is the result of the disturbed inner-moral balance of man. The macrocosm - creation groans today, because it was preceded by the suffering of the microcosm - of man. It makes perfect sense since everything that happens to man occurs all over the world. In fact, the present crisis is not outside of us, a crisis in our natural environment, but a crisis within us, in the way we think and feel. The real problem is not in the ecosystem, but in the human heart. It has been rightly said that we suffer from ecological heart failure. This means that the real problem is not technological or economic, but deeply spiritual. If the atmosphere is increasingly polluted, if lakes and rivers are poisoned, if forests die and the green meadows of the earth become deserted, it is because we, humans, are alienated from God and from our true selves. We have suffered a collective memory loss and, forgetting who we are, we have lost the right relationship with the world around us.Our Orthodox tradition can help the world to regain its lost beauty and its primordial beauty, as well as man to develop a healthy and harmonious relationship not only with the spiritual life but also with its natural environment. In summary, we would like to emphasize the following points:a) If the ecological problem is primarily a spiritual - moral issue, which means that its cause goes back to man, then the treatment of the ecological crisis must begin from the point where the disease began - by man. The reversal of the ecological crisis, a crisis that inevitably leads to disaster, presupposes the transformation of man and a return to tried and tested cultural values.b) To the extent that the alienated modern man is the creation of the western cultural "example", it is necessary to overturn this "example" and propose another, which will go beyond the negative components of Western civilization for man and nature.c) The Greek-Orthodox tradition is, we believe, the optimal alternative proposal. Therefore, the Department of Environmental Education should focus its interest on the texts and other various monuments of this tradition, utilizing its answers at a national level first, and then exporting, if possible, the Greek-Orthodox global ecological proposal. Under these conditions we can hope that the man of the third millennium will be able to form the proper ecological consciousness and the proper ecological ethos to experience his existence not as an abuser but as a manager of creation.
