Chromatic ultrasonic tracking system

Abstract

This dissertation describes the design and implementation of a new ultrasonic tracking system based on the chromatic processing technique, developed in the Centre for Intelligence Monitoring Systems (CIMS) University of Liverpool, which may be deployed in indoor environments such as offices and homes. The research shows how this chromatic technique can be transpose from the optical domain into the spatial whilst maintaining information embedded in the three chromatic values called Hue, Lightness and Saturation. The thesis also shows how the use of chromatic processing methodology may be deployed with a small number of remote sensing elements for entity location purposes taking account of the complex characteristics of the sources, detectors and the environment. This provides an insight into how these affect the quality of the information extracted and which is used to evaluate the basic performance through several experiments in different indoor environments.
