Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the protein expression of KISS-1 gene products in adenomyosis lesions compared with matched orthotopic endometrium, as well as with endometrium from patients without adenomyosis. KPs are multifunctional peptides which have been shown to be inhibitors of tumour metastasis across a range of cancers and are also involved in cell invasion through regulation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Design: Laboratory, comparative study. Setting: Tertiary academic center. Patient(s): Women with histologically proven adenomyosis after hysterectomy, and women without adenomyosis. Intervention(s): None. Main outcome measure(s): Expression on the protein level of KISS-1 was analyzed immunohistochemically in formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded adenomyotic tissue (n=29) and normal endometrium specimens (n=29).
