Aspects of the poetic technique of the poets Alejandra Pizarnik and Eugenio Montale and reception of their work

Abstract

The following dissertation aims to investigate some aspects of the poetry of Alejandra Pizarnik and Eugenio Montale, in relation to the reception of their works by the critics. Specifically, there will be an attempt to highlight the interpretative vices and the prejudices that stigmatized the works of two artists, focusing on the way in which criticism tends to concentrate on the personal lives of the poets that is discriminating against women. In the first chapter, I will examine the development and the metamorphosis of Pizarnik that allowed her to achieve the “poesía pura”. Diachronically, I will examine the characteristics of Pizarnik’s works, in order to explain why poetic experimentation drove her to focus on the female body as a sort of poetic religion. In the second chapter, I will focus on some aspects of Montale as a poet and as a literary critic.
