The industrial in Corfu: the graphic arts factory Aspioti - ELKA (during late 19 th century)

Abstract

The imprinting of the characteristics of industrial growth in Corfu as they were formed during late 19th century, and especially the case of the set up of the graphic arts factory “Aspioti”, reveals a peculiar phenomenon. The secondary sector of production is promoted as an emanation of the political, financial and social situation of that time, at the same time with the formation of the urban field and the availability of certain people in order to operate in sectors of production related to the treatment of raw material in a process of work distribution, having at first the steam as the main energy force of production, later the oil and electricity. The credit process, the banking and insurance businesses and the reliefs from customs duties for specific products are basic terms on the industrialization.
