REGULATION OF SECRETION AND DEPOSITION OF EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX BY ENDOTHELIAL CELLS IN RELATION TO ANGIOGENESIS
Abstract
THE FOCUS OF THIS STUDY WAS THE REGULATION OF THE SECRETION AND DEPOSITION OF EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX PROTEINS BY ENDOTHELIAL CELLS, IN RELATION TO ANGIOGENESIS. THE FORMATION AND MATURATION OF NEW BLOOD VESSELS IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SEQUENTIAL DEPOSITION OF EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX PROTEINS. THE SAME EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX PROTEINS HAVE BEEN ALSO IMPLICATED IN ENDOTHELIAL CELL PROLIFERATION, MIGRATION AND DIFFERENTIATION INTO TUBE-LIKE STRUCTURES IN CULTURE. THE IN VITRO MODEL USED IN THE PRESENT STUDY WAS RAT ADRENAL MEDULLA ENDOTHELIAL (RAME) CELLS. THE INTEREST WAS TO ESTABLISH THE TIME COURSE AND EXTENT OF EXPRESSION AND DEPOSITION OF THE EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX PROTEINS, FIBRONECTIN, LAMININ, COLLAGEN-IV AND COLLAGEN-I IN CULTURES OF RAME CELLS AND TO COMPARE THIS SITUATION WITH AN IN VIVO MODEL, VIZ.
