Olympism and olympic education: the International Olympic Academy and the <> program of olympic education

Abstract

The aim of this PhD thesis is to explore the many facets of Olympic education in Greece, within the framework of Olympism and the Olympic Games to which it is related. In its final form, the PhD thesis seeks to reconstruct, as closely as possible, the overall picture of Olympic education’s historic development and identity, through multiple readings that reveal visible and unseen facets of the modern Greek Olympic history of which it is also a part. Within this context, the content, the institutions, the persons and, more generally, the way in which Olympic education was conceived and applied in Greece are enhanced. The PhD thesis was methodologically based on quality research, which was considered as the most appropriate for collecting information and data that serve social reality and the possibility of focusing more in depth on the analysis it offers of the social subjects that were studied.
