Molecular study in interleukins and metalloproteinases genes which are associated with inherited predisposition for oral squamous cell carcinoma
Abstract
Aim: Prevention and early diagnosis of many deadly diseases are of great importance for the safeguarding of the health status and lives of people at risk, worldwide. Cancer is a major health problem, which needs further investigation in order to be addressed in a more effective treatment. In particular, oral squamus cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the sixth more common malignancy worldwide. Recent studies have revealed that several factors previously correlated to angiogenesis, thrombosis, and DNA repairing are associated to OSCC. Serum or saliva levels of interleukins IL-1β,-4,-6,-8,-10, tumor necrosis factors TNF-α,-β, matrix metalloproteinases MMP-1,-3, -7, -9, -13 and tissue inhibitor of MMP-2 (TIMP-2) have been associated with increased risk for the development of OSCC.
