CORRELATION OF EXCESS THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF NON-IDEAL MIXTURES

Abstract

IN THIS WORK AN ATTEMPT HAS BEEN MADE TO STUDY SYSTEMATICALLY THE BASIC THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF REPRESENTATIVE HYDROGEN BONDED SYSTEMS. EXPERIMENTAL MEASUREMENTS OF THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF ALKANE + ALKANOL AND ALKANOL + ALKYLAMINE LIQUID MIXTURES ARE REPORTED. THESE CLASSES OF MIXTURES DEVIATE REMARKABLY FROM IDEAL SOLUTION BEHAVIOUR AND SUCH SYSTEMATIC EXPERIMENTAL WORK IS NEEDED NOT ONLY FOR A RATIONAL PROCESS EQUIPMENT OR PROCESS PLANT DESIGN, BUT ALSO FOR DEVELOPMENTS THROUGH AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE INTERMOLECULAR FORCES-SOLUTION STRUCTURE-PROPERTY RELATIONSHIPS. THE SYSTEMS WHICH HAVE BEEN STUDIED ARE THE FOURBINARY MIXTURES OF N-HEXANE AND N-HEPTANE WITH ETHANOL AND 1-PROPANOL AND THE EIGHT BINARY MIXTURES OF 1- PROPYLAMINE AND 1-BUTYLAMINE WITH METHANOL, ETHANOL, 1-PROPANOL AND 1-BUTANOL.
