MINERALOGICAL, PETROLOGICAL GEOCHEMICAL STUDY OF SEDIMENTARY FORMATION IN A 2000 M DEEP DRILL-HOLE IN KATAKOLO-ILIA AREA

Abstract

THE KATAKOLO-ILIA AREA IS PART OF THE LARGEST NEOGENE DEPOSITS IN GREECE, AND HAS BEEN PETROLEUM RESEARCHED. THE MINERALOGICAL, PETROLOGICAL, GEOCHEMICAL AND DIAGENETIC STUDY OF THE 2000 M. DRILL-HOLE, PROVIDES INFORMATIONS ABOUT THE CLAY MINERAL SERIES, ANTHIGENIC MINERALS AND THE EVAPORITIC BASEMENT. THE FORMATIONS ARE DEPOSITED IN SHALLOW SEA, REDUCING CONDITIONS, INTENSIVE PRODUCTIVITY AND WITH CONSTANT CLASTIC SUPPLY. THE MINOR ELEMENTS DISTRIBUTION IS DETERMINED BY ORGANIC CARBON AND PORE WATER CHEMISTRY.THE DIAGEN OF THE CLAY MINERALS PROVIDES EVIDENCES ABOUT THE TEMPERATURE OF THE FORMATION, THAT PROBABLY IS INTENSEDIAGENESIS TO LOW GRADE METAMORPHISM. THE CLAY MINERAL DIAGENESIS IS PROPORTIONAL TO CARBON MATURITY. THE ZEOLITITE PARAGENESIS (ANALCITE-LIVOMOUTITE-CORRENSITE) CONFIRMS THE DIAGENETICAL CONDITIONS OF THE FORMATION.
