The cults of Gods and Heroes in Upper Macedonia during the antiquity (Elimeia, Eordaia, Orestia, Lyncestis)
Abstract
This study presents and analyses the cults of the gods and heroes in Upper macedonia during the antiquity except fot he imperial cults which constitutes a particular religious phenomenon of the toman world. To intent this purpose, the till today known attestations from the region of Western Macedonia and the southern part of F.Y.R.O.M were used and utilized. In this geographical space best known as Upper Macedonia by the ancient texts, Olympian Gods, deities of foreign origin, ancestral heroes and personifications were worshipped. This study was based on a catalogue of attestations per deities, in which the Olympian Gods come first and other gods and heroes grollow them : Ennodia, Hecate, Passikrata, Pluton, Hestia, Asclepius, Hercules, Pan, the Nymphes, a flurial god, Gods Epikooi, Alexander the Great, the Hero-horse man, personification and deities of anatolian origin.
