Isidore Glavas, Archbishop of Thessaloniki: historical, spiritual and social problems

Abstract

A combined research of the sources was carried out in this thesis. First, the works of bishop Isidoros Glavas was studied as the primary source, from which information was drawn on the history of Thessaloniki of the second half of the 14th century. Furthermore, other secondary sources were used not only from that era, but also prior as well as posterior narrative sources. Information was also drawn from the correspondence and letter writing of that era, the mail and the letters that were exchanged among intellectuals and other people who were involved at the time. Finally, the information in question was further enriched by contemporary bibliography. Using the sources (works of Isidoros Glavas) as historic testimony, evidence emerges about the history of Thessaloniki during the second half of the 14th century.
