LITHOLOGY, GEOCHEMISTRY, TECTONICS AND METAMORPHISM OF THE NORTHWESTERN PART OFTHE VERTISKOS GROUP. THE AREA OF THE DISORO (KROUSIA) MOUNTAIN, NORTH OF KILKIS
Abstract
IN THIS THESIS IS STUDIED THE LITHOLOGY, GEOCHEMISTRY STRUCTURE AND METAMOPHISMOF THE NORTHWESTERN PART OF THE VERTISCOS GROUP OF THE SERBOMACEDONIAN MASSIF. THE AREA STUDIED LIES NORTH OF KILKIS CENTERED AT KROUSIA MOUNTAIN. THE MAIN LITHOLOGIES PRESENT ARE MIGMATITES, PELITIC AND SEMIPELITIC SCHISTS, PSAMMITIC SCHISTS, MARBLES, AMPHIBOLITES, ECLOGITES, ULTRAMAFICS AND TWO DISTINCT GRANITIC BODIES. THE MIGMATITES HAVE BEEN FORMED BY PARTIAL MELTING OF PRE-EXISTING METASEDIMENTS. THE GRANITES ARE ALSO ANATECTIC. THE AMPHIBOLITES AND THE ECLOGITES WERE THOLEIITIC BASALTS. FIVE DEFORMATIONAL AND FIVE METAMORPHIC EVENTS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED. THE EARLIEST WAS A HIGH P ECLOGITIC EVENT, THE SECOND WAS A HIGH T REMELTING EVENT DURING WHICH THE MIGMATITES WERE FORMED. CONDITIONS OF METAMOPRHISM OF THE NEXT EVENTS WERE IDENTIFIED BY GEOTHERMOBAROMETRY. THE SEQUENCE OF THE DEFORMATIONAL EVENTS WAS SUGGESTED ON THE BASIS OF FIELD AND MICROSCOPIC STUDIES.
