Abstract
The aim of the present treatise is the total investigation of human habitation and mainly the architectural remains from the palaeochristian period until the conquest of the city of serres by the turks (1383). the abundant primary material that derived from the extensive study of sources and the surface is structured in two main parts. the first part is clearly synthetic and in its eight chapters the study of the natural geography is attempted, the economy, the administrative and ecclesiastical organisation, the built-up structure, the land and aquatic networks of communication, the monumental topography and art. the second part constitutes the detailed and systematic form. in its three chapters are recorded in alphabetical order the toponymic, oreographical, hydrographical entries, which resulted from the historical-topographical and monumental research. this thesis for the first time brings to light a large number of unknown historical, topographic, geographic and monumental element ...
