Abstract

THE STRUCTURAL TRANSFORMATIONS OF CAST FERRITIC STAINLESS STEELS WITH 28-30% CR, 0.3-0.35% C AND ZR, TI, NB, NI ADDITIONS DURING LONG PERIOD ANNEALING AT 660 C, WERE STUDIED, BY MEANS OF OPTICAL AND ELECTRON MICROSCOPY, X-RAY DIFFRACTIONAND FLUORESCENCE, IMAGE ANALYSIS AND MOSSBAUER SPECTROSCOPY. THE CARBIDE TRANSFORMATION M7-C3-->M23C6 IN DENDRITIC BOUNDARIES REDUCED THE ABSORBED ENERGY IN CHARPY-V IMPACT TEST. THE ZR AND TI ADDITIONS FAVOURED THE INCREASE OF THE BRITTLENESS OF THE ALLOYS, WHILE NI ADDITION HAD THE OPPOSITE EFFECT. THE ZR AND NIADDITION IMPROVED THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OXIDATION RESISTANCE OF THE ALLOYS.
