Multiphoton ionisation spectroscopy of Sr J=3 (odd) autoionizing states and double ionisation

Abstract

Focusing one or two dye laser beams in a Sr atomic beam and using a TOF mass spectrometer. A) We have recorded energy level positions and autoionization widths of the odd pavity J=3 states of Sr, in the energy range. Between the 5S1/2 and 4D3/2, 5/2 ionization limits. The analysis of the spectra showed that strong perturbations exist among Rydberg series converging in different limits. B) Double multiphoton ionization has been observed in the range 532-541 NM. The coinsidential double resonance between the lesser radiation and the 6P and 7D Sr+ states seems to be responsible for the large width and shift of the spectral lives and also for the low light intensity value necessary to observe double ionization.
