COMPARATIVE STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIP OF WATER PERMEABILITY LAYERSIN INSECTS EGGS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO DIPTERA
Abstract
THIS STUDY IS PART OF A GENERAL INVESTIGATION AIMING IN UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPTS OF CELL DIFFERENTIATION, EVOLUTION AND STRUCTURE FUNCTION RELATIONSHIP OFCELL CONSTITUENTS AND THEIR PRODUCTS. THE WORK IS FOCUSSED ON THE STRUCTURE AND MORPHOGENESIS OF TWO CHORIONIC LAYER BOTH OF WHICH REPRESENT THE PRODUCT OFTHE CELL DIFFERENTIATION DURING OOGENESIS IN DROSOPHILA MELANOGASTER. THE TWOLAYERS ARE IMPLICATED IN RENDERING THE EGG-SHELL IMPERMEABLE TO WATER DURINGEMBRYOGENESIS BUT AT THE SAME TIME THEY ALLOW THE PASSAGE OF RESPIRATORY GASES.
