The influence of orthopedic forces on the craniofacial complex and the temporomandibular joint
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find and evaluate the changes of the dental and skeletal elements of the craniofacial complex, with special emphasis on the temporomandibular joint, in patients treated with the activator and the chin-cup appliances. For this: 1. A group of selected 20 patients aged from 8-13 years with skeletal class II div. I .malocclusion was studied before and after 1-11/2 years of treatment with the activator, using lateral cephalometric X-rays and tomographies of the T.M.J. 2. A group of selected 20 patients aged from 7-11 years with skeletal class III malocclusion was studied before and after 1-1% years of treatment with the chin-cup appliance using lateral cephalometric X-rays and tomographies of the T.M.J. 3. In a group of 20 young people aged from 7-13 years with harmonic skeletal profil and normal occlusion, lateral cephalometric Xrays and tomographies of the T.M.J, were taken at the beginning of this study and 1'/2 years later.
