THE EFFECTS OF IONIZING RADIATION ON SOME PLATELET FUNCTION TESTS
Abstract
THE PURPOSE OF THIS WORK WAS THE STUDY OF THE EFFECT OF X - IRRADIATION ON PLATELET FUNCTION.PLATELET RICH PLASMA (300X10 9/L) WAS IRRADIATED (100, 400, 1.000, 2.000 OR 5.000 RADS) AND THE FOLLOWING PLATELET FUNCTION TEST WERE PERFORMED ON THE PLATELET RICH PLASMA BEFORE AND SOON AFTER IRRADIATION: A) PLATELET AGGREGATION BY ADP (1, 2, 4 ΜMOL FINAL CONCENTRATION) ADRENALINE AND COLLAGEN. B) ADP - RELEASE FROM PLATELETS. C) PLATELET FACTOR - 3 AVAILABILITY AND D) CLOT RETRACTION. IT WAS FOUND THAT X - IRRADIATION OF PLATELET RICH PLASMA DID NOT AFFECT THE PLATELET FUNCTION TESTS STUDIED IN THIS WORK.
